The Great War

As I'm currently reading Vera Brittain's letters to Roland Leighton et al, I thought I would read 'The War Poets: An Anthology' as an accompaniment. The selection includes work by Seigfried Sassoon, Rupert Brooke and Wilfred Owen. Though I don't really read much poetry as it takes a good few reading for it to sink in and actually make sense, it was actually rather good. First got into reading about the Great War when I was at college when we had to study it for my final year exams so I read quite a few books on it and found out I actually liked them! Something I really didnt think I would! I read 'Journey's End' (RC Sheriff), 'Birdsong' (Sebastian Faulks), 'Strange Meeting' (Susan Hill) and 'Regeneration' (Pat Barker). I'd recommend them all!

11/4/06 - Update
Just finished reading 'Letters from a Lost Generation' and had to say it was rather good. As its a collection of letters written by soldiers at the Front, you get a really visual and realistic account of the goings on back then. I found it captivating and really informative as i leart things I didnt know previously. Totally recommend it as its heart-warming yet graphically detailed.
